It includes a community college, seven public schools—including a high school—and six private schools. There is a city park. Valley Glen is noted for a half-mile-long California-history mural painted on the side of a flood-control channel.

In 2000 Valley Glen had a population of 59,230, according to the U.S. Census, and by 2008 its population was 62,846, according to the Los Angeles Department of City Planning.
